ONE OF OUR OWN: RENE LOPEZ CHASING YOUTH ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Liga Los Primos is proud to shine the spotlight on one of our own young talents, Rene Lopez, who is currently competing for the 2026 Youth Athlete of the Year.
Rene's dedication goes well beyond what happens on the pitch. While playing for four to five different teams throughout the year, he has maintained an impressive 3.5–3.7 GPA, showing the discipline it takes to balance academics with a demanding soccer schedule. (Athlete of the Year)
And right now, Rene is ranked #1 in his group! (Athlete of the Year)
His goal is bigger than winning a competition. Rene dreams of becoming a professional soccer player, saying that every time he steps onto the field, he feels one step closer to making that dream a reality. Inspired by Lionel Messi's ability and humility, Rene is already building an impressive résumé of his own, including earning First Team All-Conference honors three consecutive years in high school, followed by an honorable mention this past year. (Athlete of the Year)
The Youth Athlete of the Year winner will receive $25,000 and an opportunity to be featured in Sports Illustrated and on CBS. The first competition cut is August 27 at 8:00 PM PDT. (Athlete of the Year)
This is what community soccer is all about—watching young players grow, work hard, chase ambitious goals, and represent where they came from.
Rene is representing. Now it's our turn to support him.
